item info - the book that keeps on giving

Andy Warhol - Treasures is really what it says: Andy Warhol's treasures. I've never seen a book like it! On so many pages you find sealed envelopes which when open display fascimiles of important works. It just keeps on giving.

I love it when the publishers try something more than just putting out a book with pictures. That is why, for me, it's the most pleasurable art book I've read for sometime: you get extra Warhol in little pockets which are a treasue to behold. Open them up and if you're a Warhol fan you won't believe what is in your hand. You get an extra dimension.

I can't think of a better book I've seen in a long time, let alone an art book. It's what creating art books is all about. Kind of making it 3 dimensional with the little pieces of facsimile artwork. Gorgeous.

Moreover, this is the first book I have seen that really does justice to the Warhol-legend. You get it all. Memorabilia within those enticing envelopes - facts on each page and reproductions of the important works.

The book must have cost a small fortune to manufacture. I imagine the memorabilia within the envelopes would have had to of been hand-packed.

Facsimile pictures enclosed throughout in sealed envelopes include posters (Velvet Underground one of them as pictured below), stencils for his campbell soup adverts, a get well card from Edie Sedgewick and a cab ticket for his last journey to hospital. It brings Warholian history to life in the here and now. Astonishing book that just takes the breath away.

 Reviews

"Andy Warhol Treasures is a delight. Among the pages are reproductions of the contents of Warhol's Time Capsule, in which he stored the ephemera of his life: greeting cards from Edie Sedgewick, a Campbell's Soup stencil, newspaper clipping and illustrations. It's far more than a simple history." Vogue

"I've got a first class ticket for a trip to Andyland, complete with souvenirs. If you want the ideal keepsake and overview of Andy Warhol, look no farther than the new telephone-directory-sized catalogue and biography called Andy Warhol: Treasures ..The unique selling point of this clever book is the 21 carefully reproduced knick-knacks and mementoes that are secreted throughout in pockets and envelopes, like a handcrafted treasure map of teasingly significant and mundane clues to his almost-too-fascinating life." Ken Russell, The Times
