- Bernard Meninsky was the son of Jewish parents from the Ukraine.
His studies included periods at the Liverpool School of Art and the Slade School of Art. He also spent a year in Florence with the artist Gordon Craig.
He joined the Royal Fusiliers in London, a mainly Jewish regiment. In 1918 he was recruited as an official war artist.
After the Armistice Meninsky became a member of the London Art Group. He taught at the Westminster School of Art and the City of Oxford Art School.
