      • Bernardino Pintoricchio (Pinturicchio) was active in Perugia in 1481, but before that he was probably in Rome assisting Perugino with the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel (1481/2). The influence of Perugino remained dominant for the rest of his life. His principal works are the fresco cycles in the Borgia Apartments in the Vatican (1492c.1495) and in the Piccolomini Library of the Cathedral of Siena (15038). These are scenes from the life of Pius II Piccolomini, and include some fanciful landscapes said to be in Scotland.

His numerous works include those in Baltimore (Walters), Berlin, Boston (Mus., Gardner), Cambridge (Fitzwm), Cambridge Mass. (Fogg), Cleveland Ohio, Dresden, London (NG), New York (Met. Mus.), Oxford, Paris (Louvre), Perugia, Philadelphia (Johnson), Rome (churches), San Marino Cal. (Huntington), Siena (Mus., Cath.), Spello (Mus., churches), Spoleto (Cath.) and Washington (NG).
