      • Dirk Bogarde does tough. Well, tries to in that look sultry, jaw clenched, cheeks sucked in so best-sided profile shows how sharply my cheekbones feel about the situation typical Bogardesque-type-of-way. Needless to say, he is not always convincing.

A personal favourite of mine, Stanley Baker, acts him out of the mountains. He had a face made to look shifty, to convey the darker parts of a character with just a flicker of his eyes, or a twitch of his lips. Lordy, was he good at bad and this performance is up there with his best (though in all the films I have seen him he was never less than captivating) and more than compensates for his co-star's RADA-bookguide-anger-by-numbers type of acting.

      • Campbell’s Kingdom is the story of a young Englishman, Bruce Campbell, who has been given six months to live, and who travels to the Canadian Rockies to take over an inheritance of land from his grandfather. The old man had been alone in his conviction that there is oil in his ‘Kingdom’, and Bruce determines to devote his last remaining months to proving his grandfather right. He meets with determined and unscrupulous opposition from almost everyone in the area, and the leader of a construction gang, Owen Morgan, is prepared to attempt anything to stop the oil-drilling venture… including murder.

Dirk Bogarde (The Servant) stars as the driven young man who refuses to allow a family dream to die with him in this powerful adaptation of Hammond Innes’ best-selling novel. Campbell’s Kingdom Robin Estridge and a strong supporting cast, including Stanley Baker (Hell Drivers), Barbara Murray (The Power Game) and Michael Craig (Sea of Sand) – and one of the most thrilling and spectacular climaxes ever seen on the screen.
