- DAUBIGNY, Charles
- Charles Daubigny was a French landscape painter much influenced by the Barbizon School, who worked mostly in the Paris region. He went to Italy in 1836 and also visited England, Spain and Holland. He was a friend of Corot and was admired by Monet: he thus forms a link between the Barbizon painters and the Impressionists.
There are pictures by him in Aberdeen, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Birmingham, Boston, Budapest, Edinburgh (NG), Glasgow, London (NG, Tate, Courtauld Inst.), Montreal, New York (Met. Mus.) and Washington, as well as many French museums.
