A chirashi is a Japanese promotional movie / art / event / game / advertising flyer / mini-poster. The size is usually A4 (21cm x 27cm) or 18cm x 26cm (movie posters). Chirashi frequently sport dazzlingly colourful, uniquely Japanese design and typography, ranging in style from traditional to highly contemporary. These mini-posters are seen everywhere in Japan, but are hard to obtain outside Japan.
The text on chirashi is usually in Japanese, and aside from being very collectable, chirashi posters make charming gifts for anyone interested in contemporary Japanese culture, or someone learning Japanese (nihongo) who wishes to practise their kanji, hiragana and katakana in a modern context. And chirashi look great on the wall too!
