    German painter.
    1957-1959 Studied at the Karlsruhe Academy under HAP Grieshaber. 1960 Received a grant from the arts society of the national association of German industries. First solo-exhibition in Der Spiegel gallery in Cologne. One of the first exponents of a new figurative style of painting in Germany, taking over from the L'art informel of the 50s. A central feature in his paintings is the cephalopod, an archaic figure with an oversized head in boxed-in spaces. 1962/3 Study visit to the Villa Romana in Florence, and scholarship from the Villa Massimo in Rome. 1964-1977 Participation in documenta 3, 4 and 6 in Kassel. 1966 UNESCO Award at the 33rd Venice Biennale. 1967-1973 Professorship at the Karlsruhe Academy. Since 1984 teaching again in Karlsruhe.
