Paul McCartney & Wings was published in 1977. It's an astonishing pictorial history of the band. I've managed to source a few copies in fair condition which can be purchased here

This is an amazing book mainly because of the rare photos inside, some of which are scanned below. Highly recommended for any one with even a cursory interest in this iconic band.

Paul McCartney is one of a handful of men whose impact on rock music is literally beyond measure. If he had confined himself solely to songriting he would deserve acclaim as one of the greatest creators of melody and lyrics, ranking easily alongsid eBacharach, deserving comparison with Cole Porter and George Gershwin. If he had contented himself with being a solo performer he would certainly have reached superstar status and become one of how business's great entertainers.

In fact, he constituted one quarter of the world's most successful, innovative, culturally and musically influential groups ever. To have achieved those heights AND written such classics as Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby and so many more would be, seemingly, enough for anyone. But McCartney wasn't to be stopped. After the Beatles break-up he formed Wings and went right out and did it all over again!

This is the story of Paul McCartney, of the Beatles and, primarily, of his brilliant success with Wings. It tells of his life up to and including the unprecedented and seemingly unrepeatable popularity of the Beatles, of the bitterness and litigation that surrounded their split, of the public hostility that his role in the break-up invoked, of his fight to see his wife Linda accepted as a musician and performer and the final triumph as Wings deservedly became one of the world's most popular recording and performing bands. The whole atonishing story is revealed in words and intimate photographs. It is the story of a rock genius who transcended the tag of "ex-Beatle" and became the Wing Commander.
