sutton garden rubbish
Apparently, the council tax of £140.00+ per month I'm charged for my band (which has gone up by double in the last 5 years) is not enough to take care of garden rubbish. Solemnly, the council wrote to say they were committed to getting the 'carbon footprint of the borough down' which translates to: 'it's going to cost me'. Great idea though. Just one problem. Most people are struggling with the bills as it is and just won't have even more money to hand over the council. So what will they do. Council advises that they can take it to a recycling centre. Right. So how are they going to get it to the recycling centre? Well, short of having a horse and cart to hand they are going to use the car. Which means? Why the carbon footprint of the borough will go up. Thus the idea is made redundant and will make matters worst. Moreover, what about people who don't have cars? What about pensioners who are struggling as it is? What about garden rubbish from other peoples' gardens (like overhanging trees). Why should a neighbour pay for that? What should they do? Chuck it back into the neighbour's garden? If people do that it'll start yet more wars between the neighbours. Thanks Sutton Council. Whatever is right, now is really not the time to add extra taxes. People are really, really struggling with mortgages, utility bills, the price at the pumps, people just can't afford to pay the bill for the borough's conscience.
