Vecchietta was a Sienese sculptor who also worked as a painter and architect. He was a pupil of Sassetta and the teacher of Matteo di Giovanni. His style is expressive, naturalistic and linear, with strong Florentine influences.
His works are mostly in Siena (Mus., and especially Hospital), but there are others in Florence (Uffizi), Liverpool, New York (Frick Coll.), Paris (Louvre, Cluny Mus.), Pienza (Cath.) and Rome (S.M. del Popolo).
