        Painter

      • Anton Mauve was a painter of peasant genre and landscapes and a leading member of the Hague School. He worked with W. Maris, but was principally influenced by Millet and the Barbizon painters. He was related to van Gogh, who worked under him for a brief period before they quarrelled.

There are works by him in Amsterdam (Rijkmus., Stedelijk), Baltimore, Boston, Edinburgh, Glasgow, The Hague (Nesdag Mus.), New York (Met. Mus., Brooklyn) and Rotterdam.
