David Bowie // The Man Who Sold The World Cassette, Album, Reissue, Remastered (Canada, 1990)

Originally released in 1970, The Man Who Sold The World represented a major turning point in David Bowie’s early development, introducing a heavier and more aggressive musical direction than his previous recordings. The album combined hard rock influences with surreal lyrical themes and darker subject matter, helping establish many of the stylistic elements that would continue to evolve throughout Bowie’s career.

Built around the prominent guitar work of Mick Ronson, the record blends heavy riffs, dramatic arrangements, and psychological imagery across tracks such as All The Madmen, The Width Of A Circle, and the title composition The Man Who Sold The World. The album’s atmosphere moves between hard rock intensity and more theatrical, introspective material, reflecting Bowie’s growing interest in identity, alienation, and performance.

Although initially less commercially successful than some of Bowie’s later releases, the album gained increasing recognition over time and is now regarded as one of the key foundations of his early 1970s catalogue. The title track in particular became one of Bowie’s most widely revisited compositions, later reaching new audiences through reinterpretations and renewed critical attention.

This 1990 Canadian remastered cassette reissue reflects the renewed international interest in Bowie’s earlier catalogue during the late 1980s and early 1990s, when many classic titles were reintroduced in updated audio editions across cassette and CD formats.

For collectors, remastered cassette editions such as this preserve the transitional period between analogue tape formats and the growing dominance of digital reissue campaigns, while maintaining the distinctive presentation associated with Bowie’s early heavyweight recordings.
