While it is quite a fancy programme it seems to be fancy for the sake of being fancy. By that I mean it reflects the period it was made in. Glass Spider was the tour to support the Never Let Me Down album. This was the period from the mid to late 80s after the switch into the mainstream with Let's Dance/Serious Moonlight tour. He had become akin to, in his own words, Phil Collins in terms of popularity. Great in terms of money and wealth but, creatively, Scary Monsters and most of the back catalogue seemed a lifetime away. Glass Spiders, I think most Bowie fans would agree, saw the great man seemingly devoid of anything worth saying. For sure, looking back, it was a creative low point which I would say lasted a decade until 1.Outside. The programme reflects this, I think. Lovely to look at but at the end of the day, kind of empty. Or Make offer.
