Remember when Demi Moore used to make half decent movies? You know, the time before she became obsessed with finding the font of eternal youth and seemingly just making movies to fund the plastic surgery of eternal youth? Well, this is one of those movies before she became Ms. Vainpants. She and the absurdly handsome Rob Lowe star in this
1980s look at the lifestyles and
lovestyles of young city professionals.
The film is based on David Mamet's
play Sexual Perversity in Chicago,
though you'd hardly know it, since it is
a far slicker affair than Mamet would
ever produce. Yet it does retain at
least some of the playwright's insight
and intelligence, while also providing
its ration of entertainment.
Lowe and
Moore do well, although it is James
Belushi, in an over-the-top supporting
performance, who all but walks off with
the show (and boy, Mr Belushi can do over the top with the best of them though not in Charles Laughton's class). Contains swearing and
nudity. And come to think of it they are things Ms Moore has always ben associated with so no change there then!
