Downie (the artist) is fast becoming one of the most collectable artists on the internet. Born in Manchester in 1949, he went to school in south Manchester. He was always interested in art and spent many hours in the town galleries studying the old masters. It was his best subject at school and he just loved painting. He keeps trying to perfect his art as best he can.

Left the building industry in 1989 to paint full time, he painted for the tourist industry for 22 years but now just paints what he likes to paint.

This is one of the paintings Downie painted for the tourist industry in Cornwall. Roughly, Downie's work can be split into two: Cornwall scenes (lanscapes, inns, midnight coastal scenes etc. done between 1989 and 2010) and the Lowryesque scenes which is driving his fame ever forward. The 'tourist' pictures are now appearing on the market on the back of the success of the 'Lowry' pictures and as of April 2011 the prices are climbing but are still less than their Lowry brothers. They are a perfect affordable introduction into the world of Downie.
