This is an impassioned account of the triumph of fascism in 1930s Spain. Frederic Rossif makes little attempt to disguise his left-wing sympathies as he champions the cause of the International Brigade over the Condor Legion, with its Italo-German hardware and the remorseless backing of the nobility and the church.

Gleaned from contemporary newsreels, the footage reveals the pitiless nature of the conflict and the growing hopelessness of republican resistance. Complete with a melancholic score by Maurice Jarre, this is may not be an impartial record, but it's a powerful one.
