Lauren Hutton
Original "Charlie" perfume girl
Born in South Carolina and raised in rural Florida, Lauren Hutton (b. Mary Laurence Hutton) began her modeling career by becoming a Playboy Bunny at age 20. She quickly rose to become a top fashion model, cover girl, and commercial spokesperson.
Hutton retained the slight gap in her teeth, which gave her on-camera persona a relatable and down-home sensibility that distinguished her from other models.
Hutton began appearing in films in 1968 and gained recognition with movies such as Gator (1976), American Gigolo (1978), and Zorro, the Gay Blade (1981). She earned critical praise for her roles in the 1977 TV miniseries The Rheinman Exchange and the 1984 adventure film Lassiter, in which she played a bloodthirsty villainess.
In 1983, she made her stage debut in the harrowing revenge-for-a-rape play Extremities, following the lead of contemporaries such as Farrah Fawcett.
In recent years, Hutton has reduced her acting appearances to focus on modeling, while also becoming a committed activist for political and social causes. Her influence in the fashion industry remains strong, and she continues to be celebrated as a pioneering figure in modeling.
In 2000, Hutton was hospitalized after a motorcycle accident during a 100-mile ride celebrating the planned Guggenheim motorcycle exhibit, accompanied by Dennis Hopper and Jeremy Irons. She sustained multiple leg fractures and bruises but recovered fully.
She also faced financial challenges when she discovered that nearly $13 million of her wages had been misappropriated by her accountant Bob Williamson, who left only $2.5 million to his new wife and nothing to Hutton in his will.
