Deleted 1999 UK CD album, described as 'Music For Multi-Media Installations' and including the recordings 'The Beekeepers Apprentice', 'Epiphany' and 'Approaching Silence' [totalling over 73 minutes], featuring Robert Fripp on Frippertronics and vocals. Approaching Silence was one of the first of the seemingly endless re-releases, re-packaging, 're' whatever done at the back end of the 90s and into the eary 2000s. Dead Bees... had been and gone and his departure from Virgin was imminent. Weatherbox was even muted for a re-release at this point but nothing came of it. What did come out came in various new guises and it was all beautifully put together, beautifully packaged and well worth collecting. And isn't the cover just awesomingly beautiful. What a mythical, spiritual images. Words cannot praise it enough. It's kind of sad that any words have to go over it to dilute the beauty of that moment. Release Date: 27th September 1999 Tracklisting On September 27th, David Sylvian will be releasing an ablbum of 3 ambient electronic pieces titled Approaching Silence. These were originally devised as soundtracks for art installations and feature music entirely written and mostly performed by Sylvian himself, with contributions by Robert Fripp and the percussionist Frank Perry. Two of the tracks, The Beekepper's Apprentice and Epiphany, have appeared before as Ember Glance, a limited edition package with book, which came out in 1991. These accompanied an installation in Tokyo of the work of the visual artist Russell Mills, one of Sylvian's longterm collaborators who designed the sleeve for the recent album Dead Bees on a Cake, as well as the Godman EP. The third and final piece on the album is the gorgeously textured title track, a 38 minute epic which was first heard in 1994, again in Tokyo, as part of an installation of sound and images called Redemption, ut together by Sylvian and Robert Fripp. The album artwork features a photograph by Shinya Fujiwara, whose work has previously appeared on the sleeves of Dead Bees on a Cake and Rain Tree Crow. Alternately soothing and disturbing, Approaching Silence is abstract, highly evocative and beautifully crafted. Marketing Condition: used - like new.
