        Giving a towering central performance, MacLaine won both a Golden Globe and the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival, while Peggy Ashcroft was nominated for a BAFTA for her supporting role of Lady Emily. Co-written and directed by Oscar-winning John Schlesinger (Midnight Cowboy), Madame Sousatzka is a compelling and emotional film which continues to resonate with its viewers.
