W0321CD. Spanish Steps is a beautiful number from the Wild Seed album, proving, if proof be needed, that Harket could croon with the best of them. This, Half inLove... And Tell Me What You See, are treasure pieces from the collection of songs, poetic and haunting. If A Kind of Christmas Card was a kind of sledgehammer to get across just what a good album this was, Spanish Steps is one of its genuine and lasting crowning glories. This single was the second to be taken from the album. Not sure what the typeface used for this release was but it is the same used for all the releases for the album and has intrigued me ever since. Looks so impressive, poetically impressive, and is one of those few times that the typography really mirrors or reflects the qualities of an album. It has a 1950s or 60s typewriter quality to it (think Graham Greene typing away on his battered typewriter on the balcony of his decaying hotel room in Havana), as though written in haste in hot exotic landscapes far, far away. Kind of like a journalist or broadcaster reporting back from an alien foreign clime, in this case Harket reporting on the long and winding sun drenched road of love. Ahhhhhh!
