Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman was born on June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her family lived on the island because of her father's research project, before moving to Washington, D.C., and eventually returning to Australia. She grew up in the Sydney suburb of Longueville with her parents — a biochemist father and nurse/educator mother — and her younger sister, Antonia. Kidman trained in ballet from age three and began acting in drama school and community theatre.
Kidman made her professional acting debut at 14 in the TV movie Bush Christmas (1983) and quickly followed with BMX Bandits (1983). Her breakout role came with the Australian miniseries Vietnam, earning attention for her portrayal of a young schoolgirl growing into a politically aware adult. By the late 1980s, she had gained critical recognition with films like Dead Calm (1989) and the TV miniseries Bangkok Hilton.
In 1990, Kidman starred opposite Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder, beginning a high-profile Hollywood career and a marriage to Cruise. Throughout the 1990s, she appeared in Billy Bathgate, Far and Away, and Batman Forever, but it was To Die For (1995) and The Portrait of a Lady (1996) that established her as a serious actress. She also achieved stage success in London's The Blue Room, earning an Olivier nomination and critical praise.
Kidman’s role in Moulin Rouge! (2001) won her a Golden Globe, and her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours (2002) earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress. She continued with acclaimed films such as The Others (2001), Rabbit Hole (2010), and Destroyer (2018). She also became a producer, contributing to projects including the TV series Big Little Lies (2017–2019) and The Undoing (2020).
Kidman remains active in film and television. Notable recent projects include the miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers (2021), the film Being the Ricardos (2021), for which she earned an Oscar nomination, and her ongoing role in high-profile productions both in Australia and internationally. She continues to combine acting with producing and advocacy work in humanitarian and environmental causes.
Kidman has two children adopted with Tom Cruise, Isabella and Connor. She later married country singer Keith Urban in 2006, with whom she has two biological daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. She is known for balancing her family life with a selective but critically acclaimed acting career. Throughout her life, Kidman has been recognized not only for her performances but for her influence in film and television production.
