item info - the book that keeps on giving
In my opinion with the publication of this and Andy Warhol: Treasures, the publishers, Goodman Books, have overtaken Taschen as producing the most attractive art books on the market. This book is really that good.
Dali's World offers the reader the opportunity to experience the artist's life and work as no other book before has.
Known for his involvement in the Surrealist movement, Dali was often at odds with its leaders, thanks to his refusal to accept boundaries and his enthusiasm for defying conventions. Here, the reader can discover the events, people and places that influenced him, and examine the diversity of his work as evidenced by over 160 illustrations.
His many and varied interests in such fields as science and religion led to numerous projects that covered illustrations for books and advertising, writing, films, jewellery and sculpture.
Unique to this book is the inclusion of over 20 facsimile documents that the reader can examine, such as:
In the gallery below are extensive scans of some of the memorabilia contained in these mythical envelopes.
Outline
Published in collaboration with the Gala-Salvador Dali Foundation, The Treasures of Salvador Dali offers one of the most up-to-date and intriguing views of the life and works of one of the world's most famous artists of the 20th century. Augmented by the inclusion of facsimiles of over 20 documents from the archives of the Foundation, this beautiful book takes the reader through the life of one of the leading lights of the Surrealist movement. From his first forays into the world of art to his visits to Paris and meetings with Picasso and the Surrealists, Dali broke boundaries like few others, and themed chapters look at his fascination with other artists and writers, his collaborations with such giants as the film-makers Luis Bunuel, Alfred Hitchcock and Walt Disney as well as his adherence to and then expulsion from the Surrealist movement.
Containing some rarely and previously unpublished works, The Treasures of Dali culminates in an examination of the legacy that Dali has left behind and how successive artists have been influenced by him.

buy item & condition
Condition: as per scans. The book is a work of art in itself and its precisely because of that that none of the copies on the market are in mint. With the inclusion of the envelopes with all the extra pull-out memorabilia means that the contents are realy too big for the binding. So there is wear here and there and the cover has wear in places as can be seen by the scans. But don't let that put you off. You will still marvel at it.
