DESCRIPTION

First time on vinyl for David Sylvian’s 29-track career-spanning compilation from 2000.

Features key songs from Japan and Rain Tree Crow, as well as David’s Virgin Records solo years.

Also includes key collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Robert Fripp and Alesini & Andreoni.

Alongside the remixes of “Ghosts” and “Bamboo Houses”, the album features tracks such as the beautiful ‘Ride’ from the ‘Secrets of the Beehive’ sessions, two dobro pieces written with Bill Frizell and “Cover Me with Flowers” from the ‘Dead Bees On A Cake’ sessions, plus the classic “Some Kind of Fool’ taken from Japan’s sessions for ‘Gentleman Take Polaroids’.

David Sylvian’s compilation album “Everything and Nothing” was originally released in October 2000 on CD & cassette. This album is a collection of previously released and unreleased tracks, re-recorded and alternate versions of songs spanning Sylvian’s twenty-year career with Virgin Records.

Sylvian’s approach to this compilation was to provide a comprehensive overview of his vocal work, blending different phases of his musical journey. He aimed to present his evolution as an artist, moving from the art-pop style of Japan to more introspective and experimental solo work.

One of the tracks, “Buoy” is by Mick Karn featuring David Sylvian, released in 1987. This song is part of Karn’s album "Dreams of Reason Produce Monsters". Sylvian provided vocals and co-wrote the track, while Karn played bass, saxophones, and synthesizers. The collaboration marked a significant reunion for the two former Japan bandmates, blending their unique styles into a haunting and atmospheric piece.
