Date of Death
But what joy, what absolute joy, to behold him on the silver screen. I'm afraid when he is in a scene I can't even remember who else he shares it with. He was unique. He was a gift to British cinema the like of which we will never receive again. ---------------
I suppose his stand-out role was as Sir Lancelot Spratt in the Doctor films, the first of which came in 1954 with Doctor in the House. Stand-out if only because he hammed it up more than in other films for from an acting point of view he was alot better or more restrained as Evans in Scott of the Antarctic (1948). He was also a journalist and naturalist, as well as a falconry expert.
