A Canterbury Tale In Canterbury, Kent, in search of something really obscure ... read more below. LET'S GO CANTERBURY: Canterbury, Kent. Chaucer, The Canterbury Tales, Marlowe, Orlando Bloom (yes, he comes from here), the awe - inspiring Cathedral, beautful old buildings, history, history, history. So much to see, so little time. Such is life. But it wasn't these things which brought me to what is, for me, the most beautiful city in the UK. No, it was something really obscure and, I guess, stupid. it was in search of Rymans and Boots. Nothing obscure in that, you may think, but I wanted to see them today, in the same places, as they were in the 1944 Powell/Pressburger movie, A Canterbury Tale, probaly the most atmospheric movie I've ever seen. I'd been once before and they had been there and it was strange to think that were I stood was where, once, all those years ago, the genius that was Powell had stood, directing his classic into movie history. Though I gave up the ghost in even looking for them I saw places that had been the impressive backdrop to the movie and that was enough for me plus some other gems.
