Bell (Arthur Howard) Clive (1881-1964).
British writer on art, husband of Vanessa Bell.
His
emphasis on aesthetic experience was through
the formal qualities of a work of art; he developed the notion of significant form. Bell and
Fry were instrumental in securing recognition
for Post-Impressionist art in Britain, especially
the work of Cezanne. Works include Art (1914)
and Civilisation (1928).
