Biography:
Gordon Cameron Jackson was a film actor, born in Glasgow, W Scotland, UK. He made his debut in Foreman Went to France (1941), and went on to appear in over 60 films, including The Ipcress File (1965) and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1968). He became a household name through his television work as the butler in Upstairs, Downstairs (1970–5) and in The Professionals (1977–81)
He appeared in well over 100 TV and film productions.
One of his best and most watchable roles is his role as Noel in the Australia miniseries, A Town Like Alice. It a series you just have to catch though its lack of release in any territory makes that hard.
There was a lifetime roles between the early Wartime memorable role in Millions Like Us where his performance suggested leading star status and his strong supporing role in The Professionals. That lifetime saw him settle into supporting roles in many, many films. I think it was touch and go in the 1940s when he could have gone on to carry films on his own but for some reason he slipped down the credit roles of movies. I don't understand really as he has such a strong screen presence helped in no small part by that mercurial voice, as Scottish as Braveheart and not far behind the greatest voice of all, that of Richard Burton.
