They will tell you everything you need to know. Because Hundertwasser and, after him, the Foundation, took the greatest care in the creation of each poster, they cannot be considered just an ordinary poster ... they are a work of art in themselves ... Though there shouldn't be any unauthorised Hundertwasser prints or fakes on the market that doesn't mean there aren't any. An authorised poster may look expensive but remember it is not an ordinary poster (see below). It is a work of art wheras any unauthorised piece will look truly awful in comparsion. Remember also that an actual Hundertwasser print is a million times better in the flesh (metal embossed etc. a joy just to touch) than an internet scan. No scan can possibly do them justice. Hundertwasser Posters and Art Prints - General Information H U N D E R T W A S S E R A R T P R I N T S Hundertwasser art prints are reproductions of paintings, printed in different techniques as offset prints, granolitho (collotype prints), etc. They are printed and published by various publishers such as Daco Verlag, Arte fides, Bruckmann/Stiebner Verlag, Wörner Verlag etc. Most of the Hundertwasser art prints are printed mirror-inverted: 'Reproductions are inverted like in mirror writing.' This was suggested by Hundertwasser himself in order to create a new dimension and to present the paintings in a new light. A further advantage to this is to render fakes much harder, making imitations more difficult. Hundertwasser strived for the highest quality in the reproductions of his paintings. He controlled the colours of the prints and arranged for the colours to be printed with the best quality and brillance. Special effects are created through metal embossings. Many of the reproductions are printed on a black background in order to let the paintings glow out of the dark. Some art prints, especially collotype prints, have been printed in a limited number. Hundertwasser considered his “original posters” as original works and had them noted as works of applied art in his work catalogue raisonné with an APA number (applied art number). The “original posters” are multiples and works of applied art, though many of them have not been printed in a limited number. He created them as original works with an original design, though he created them on the basis of existing works. Hundertwasser’s original posters are an important part of his ecological strategy. For the original posters Hundertwasser worked very closely with his printer. All original posters were printed by B. Wörner, Rutesheim. Most of Hundertwasser's prints and posters sell in Germany Concerning art prints & posters there should not be any unauthorised ones on the market. They are licenced by the Hundertwasser Foundation and believe me they take care in achieving the highest printing quality possible. Selection of motifs for art prints always was done in collaboration with the artist (now the Foundation) and the printer/publisher. Though there shouldn't be any unauthorised Hundertwasser prints or fakes on the market that doesn't mean there aren't any.
