I will get it up within 24 hours. A miracle of an album; that it exists at all is really testimony to the tenacity of Mark Hollis. Coming at the end of Talk Talk (by then a 2-piece band with Tim Friese-Greene and a large array of improvising musicians) it is beyond words, beyond anything Talk Talk had ever done includingSpirit of Eden. Similar to David Sylvian's Brilliant Trees when you compare it to Japan's Gentlemen Take Polaroids. Or Bowie's 1. Outside to Let's Dance. A work of art but totally unmarketable. Just thinking outloud. but I wonder how or when Hollis concluded the album was finished or could it ever have been finished? Is art an ever complete state or is it as near to 'the finish' he felt he could take it? Recording in darkness does work, somehow. There have been the 2011 Ba Da Bing and the 2012 Verve issues on vinyl but to me this release is quieter, more dynamic, more satisfying... Is it any more dynamic here than on CD, I wonder. A personal choice I guess. I just love the artwork. When you see it you just know it's a Talk Talk release before you read the title. The size of vinyl makes you appreciate how beautiful it is when you compare it to CD or cassette releases. James Marsh was responsible for this as for much of the iconic sleeves. It's natural history but not as we know it.
