Leon Kossoff
All images c. Estate of Leon Kossoff.
2nd: Booking Hall, Kilburn Underground, 1987. I just love this image - I think it's one of his finest out of a body of work that is up there with the greats of art in the 20th century. Like Lowry, but unlike him as he does it in his own, unique way, Kossoff witnesses and depicts strangers all weighed down by their own personal worries. The only difference between 1987 and now is there isn't a mobile in the hand but other than that nothing changes. Strangers in a crowded hall in a world of their own. The over-populated metropolis that is London can be the loneliness place in the world.
