Husband and wife team and Royal Shakespeare Company players Dame Judi Dench and Michael Williams star in a much-admird comedy series from the early 1980s. She plays Laura, who is thirty-seven and unmarried. He plays Mike, also single. Laura's sister, Helen, (Susan Penhaligon) is anxious to see Laura 'married off' and introduces her to Mike at a party. The relationship is awkward but they pretend they are getting along well to keep Helen happy...

This series was always in the ITV Top Ten and had a number of BAFTA nominations, resulting in Judi Dench winning two for her work on the series - Best Actress (1982) and Best Light Entertainment Performance. This is the first time it has been released on DVD in the UK.

Laura and Mike are still together but everything they plan seems to end in disaster. The problems really begin when Laura starts to get broody and decides she wants to have children and realises that she has not got much time left. Mike, on the other hand, does not like the idea and a wedge is brought between them.
