About Parastone
First things first: there are no better Degas sculptures/figures than these Parastone figures anywhere. The attention to detail & the 3d effect breathes new life in the work of the masters, especially, for me, the incomparable Degas. Some of them, especially the dancers, are astonishing. So graceful and to see a Degas dancer in 3d really does add another dimension to the artwork.
Parastone was originally part of the famous Borzo art dealership which was founded in 1880 and it primarily specialised in restoring religious art. When, alongside the latter activity, an increasing number of sculptures were produced after own designs, it was decided – in 1963 – to found Parastone as an independent company.
For over 50 years now, Parastone has successfully designed decorative sculptures, partly of timeless classic beauty, partly aligned with current trends. The museum images entitled Mouseion constitute an important part of the collection. Alongside exact copies of important works of art, Mouseion also consists of three-dimensional interpretations of paintings and sketches by many artists ranging from Jheronimus Bosch to Salvador Dali. Klimt is somewhere in the middle of those two masters.
Parastone is located in ’s-Hertogenbosch, a historic city in the Netherlands and the birthplace of famous Medieval painter Jheronimus Bosch.
Edgar Degas and Parastone: what a magical combination.

Degas developed an interest in ballet at an early age and in 1872 he made his first studies of ballet dancers. He avoided the true drama, the performance itself. This distant approach seems a reflection of Degas’ own life. When one of his favourite models went to New York, the apparently uninterested bachelor followed her, sailing on the next boat only to return to France never having left the ship, exclaiming: ‘What more can we do than to show that one is able to follow a lady from Paris to New York?’
In his attempt to catch the action of the moment, his ballet dancers and female nudes are in poses that make no attempt to conceal the subjects' physical exertions. His later pastels, like Danseuse Verte (Green Dancer, 1880) have an elegance unsurpassed by any of his earlier works.
Degas' mastery of oil pastel is evident in the free-flowing grace of this dancer rehearsing her performance. From her outstretched arm to delicate extended leg, the artwork -- here interpreted as a statue -- bespeaks true mastery. We are fortunate to have this masterful reproduction of Degas' famous oil pastel, Danseuse Verte (Green Dancer), because it adds a new dimension to our understanding of his artistry (see original picture).
Please note: as of April 14 I only have 1 left. Comes without the presentation box as that was tatty but has been reduced in price and comes wrapped in the strong polyester. In mint. THIS CAN ONLY BE MAILED TO A UK ADDRESS.

For 10 years he sketched the young women training and then reused the sketches for new artworks during the next 40 years. The early rehearsal scenes were done in oil; and in 1878, he started using pastels for his dancers, nudes and horse-track scenes.
In his attempt to catch the action of the moment, his ballet dancers and female nudes are in poses that make no attempt to conceal the subjects' physical exertions. Just the same, in this example, the dancer here is in a moment of rest as she waits (see original picture).
As of 2014, I found that amazon now stock many of the Degas Parastone sculptures. As it is impossible to compete with their buying power you may well find the sculpture cheaper there. I have put links to both their US and UK sites below which will take you to their Degas sculpture pages.
If I can ever compete with their prices then I will stock them again as I do love these sculptures and they deserve to be owned by as many people as possible. I also miss those conversations with fellow Degas/Parastone admirers who are adding a sculpture or starting a collection. For now it's enough to present them as beautifully as I possibly can or am able to do.

The painting depicted in the second image at right shows a horse galloping prematurely onto the track while, in the background, a jockey is having the greatest difficulty keeping his horse under control. Although the horse is beautifully painted, Degas made the mistake of portraying the horse's legs as being raised off the ground. Eight years later, Eadweard Muybridge would show, in his famous series of photos of a galloping horse, that Degas' painting does not match up with reality.
A false start at Longchamps, the popular Parisian racetrack In around the middle of the 19th century, horse racing became very popular in France. Degas discovered the sport during a holiday in Normandy. Originally he painted and drew hunting and steeplechase scenes but, in around 1870, he became a frequent visitor to the popular Longchamps racetrack on the outskirts of Paris. Just as he had an eye at the opera for the world of dancers and singers behind the screens, Degas also showed the jockeys and horses before and after the race (see original picture).

Petite Danseuse De Quatorze Ans (Little Dancer of Fourteen Years) 1879-1881, is the only sculpture Edgar Degas chose to exhibit throughout his lifetime. He created a revolutionary piece breaking the stereotypical cold inanimate sculptures of his time. He made his dancer come to life. Although received with some disapproval because of its stark realism, it has become one of the most time honored, beloved sculptures around the world.
