Francis Bacon

01.12.15: Exhibition Posters

I've collected Francis Bacon posters, specifically exhibition posters, for more years than I care to remember.

Usually I've set a limit of $100 or less per poster as otherwise it would be too expensive.

Below is a sample of some I have. I have had multiples beforehand which I've sold so as of Dec. 15 I don't have any in stock.

But there is a link underneath to ebay.com and the exhibition posters they currently have for sale from marketplace sellers.

Below each posters is details of that particular release.

Tate Exhibition

Francis Bacon Tate Exhibition Poster
© Estate of Francis Bacon

Released: 2008. Sized: 24in x 16in approx. A really striking Bacon poster when it was released to promote the major retrospective, it makes it doubly surprising how quickly the Tate allowed this to become a deleted title. The upshot of this is the price for it goes up and up when it does come onto the market.

Screaming Pope Series

Francis Bacon Screaming Pope Series Poster
© Estate of Francis Bacon

Released: 2000. Sized: 59cm x 42cm (23.5in x 16.5in). Published By: Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin.

This original exhibition poster was commissioned for the exhibition of Francis Bacon's work by the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Dublin in 2000, the first major exhibition of Bacon's paintings held in Ireland since 1965.

The exhibition was organised to celebrate John Edwards’ donation of the entire contents of Francis Bacon’s studio at 7, Reece Mews, London, which formally established an important connection between the Hugh Lane and the artist. This poster from the exhibition predates the historical opening of the reconstructed studio to the public on 23 May 2001.

The image used in this poster is taken from a painting that was of the Pope series of which Bacon painted over 40 variations. The Pope series was inspired by Velazquez’s Pope Innocent X.
