About Parastone
First things first: there are no better Klimt sculptures/figures than these Parastone figures anywhere. The attention to detail & the 3d effect breathes new life in the work of the masters, especially, for me, the incomparable Klimt. Some of them, especially the colours and details, are astonishing. Yes, everyone knows about The Kiss and Expectation, but just look below at some of the others, less famous works, and just marvel at them.
Parastone was originally part of the famous Borzo art dealership which was founded in 1880 and it primarily specialised in restoring religious art. When, alongside the latter activity, an increasing number of sculptures were produced after own designs, it was decided – in 1963 – to found Parastone as an independent company.
For over 50 years now, Parastone has successfully designed decorative sculptures, partly of timeless classic beauty, partly aligned with current trends. The museum images entitled Mouseion constitute an important part of the collection. Alongside exact copies of important works of art, Mouseion also consists of three-dimensional interpretations of paintings and sketches by many artists ranging from Jheronimus Bosch to Salvador Dali. Klimt is somewhere in the middle of those two masters.
Parastone is located in ’s-Hertogenbosch, a historic city in the Netherlands and the birthplace of famous Medieval painter Jheronimus Bosch.
Gustav Klimt and Parastone: what a magical combination.

The ornamental facade seems to hide a pure almost esoteric feeling of felicity, portrayed in a classical manner, nestling in a bed of flowers. In accordance with the Jugendstil tradition, these lovers appear to be detached from the world. An impression that is reinforced by the application of shades of gold and gold leaf (see original picture).
The Kiss sculpture is a life affirming piece that you will want to look at again and again. I have mine on display in my Klimt display cabinet and it's centre stage. Two people as one. This is what great art can do: it can transcend everyday life and can capture that special moment in our lives. The Kiss is a special moment for Klimt, for me, but more importantly for you as you are here reading this and may have an idea of what I mean.
Prices range from $60.00 for the small one to $170.00 for the larger one which represents value for money as the attention to detail sets them apart from most other sculptures.
As of 2014, I found that amazon now stock many of the Klimt Parastone sculptures. As it is impossible to compete with their buying power you may well find the sculpture cheaper there. I have put links to both their US and UK sites below which will take you to their Klimt sculpture pages.
If I can ever compete with their prices then I will stock them again as I do love these sculptures and they deserve to be owned by as many people as possible. I also miss those conversations with fellow Klimt/Parastone admirers who are adding a sculpture or starting a collection. For now it's enough to present them as beautifully as I possibly can or am able to do.

Klimt himself, a man of few words, later called this image simply 'the dancer'. It could be though that this geometrical ornamented portrayal has a logical connection with The Fulfilment, which also forms a part of a mosaic design in the 'Palais Stocklet' in Brussels. (see original picture).
Nov. 14: 1 left! Extensive scans of this sculpture can now be found here. I think from these scans you get an accurate idea of just what a Klimt Parastone sculpture looks like though, like most things, it looks far better in real life. It's quite a big sculpture, at 9 inches long, which gives the piece a powerful presence yet at the same time the figure remains ethereal, dreamlike, and has that 'dancey' feel. I love it!

Emilie Floge, a fashion designer and good friend of Klimt's, was the subject in several of his artworks. We see her wearing a stunning, fashionable blue dress establishing her role as a society woman from the turn of the century in Austria. Many believe Klimt and Floge were lovers, but the truth is they were merely close friends and relatives. Klimt's brother, Ernst, had married Emilie's sister, which made her Klimt's sister-in-law. During the last 25 years of Klimt's life, she was very close to Klimt. (see original picture).

The lovers turn their backs against the world hiding behind the salutary Jugendstil ornamentation in a rigid embrace. These figures form a part of a decorative mosaic design in the dining room frieze of the 'Palais Stocklet' in Brussels. The Stoclet Frieze is admired for its mesmerizing gold and patterned surface, so characteristic of Klimt's style (see original picture).

The second painting entitled ‘Hope II’ was first shown to the public in 1909 in the Klimt room of the second Kunstschau: The first painting – that was withdrawn from the retrospective Secession exhibition for obscenity six years earlier – was also known there. At the time, Klimt had the following to say about the painting: ‘Everything is ugly, she is and what she sees, yet inside her grows beauty, hope. And her eyes express that’ (see original picture).

Klimt had been questioning "The Meaning of Life" and his painting depicts "Mankind's desire to find happiness" from the Beethoven Frieze of the Secession exhibition in Vienna. In this fresco, there are three main sections that show a medieval knight on his quest or on a journey for human salvation. This reproduction is taken from the panel which illustrates the knight's yearning for luck (see original picture).

A year after Klimt had finished his famous Beethoven frieze, in which the Golden Knight has a central position, again, he painted a knight figure as a symbol for the toilsome quest for absolute freedom to live and think, and thus to express oneself. Because only art can lead us to our ideal domain, the artist is heading the battle. For this Klimt was inspired by Richard Wagner’s vision on the first part of Beethoven’s ninth symphony – “A great battle taken up by the soul, which is struggling for joy with the pressure of the hostile force which stands between us and the earth’s happiness.”- and it appears to be the basic thought behind this first part (see original picture).

The tranquil female figure, holding a kithara, is part of the right panel of the allegorical Beethoven frieze which Klimt painted for the Sezession exhibition held in 1902, which was centered round Max Klinger's sculpture of Beethoven. The painting shows the stages which man, and in particular the artist, has to go through during the quest for great happiness. In the end poetry manages to satisfy this desire. Poetry is symbolized by a figure inspired by paintings on vases from ancient Greece. She plays her Kithara, a sort of lyre given to mankind by the god Apollo, from which the word guitar is derived.

One of the best known and most monumental portraits is that of the wife of captain of industry Ferdinand Bloch. It Marks the brilliant peak of Klimt’s golden period, and also signifies its end. Klimt began making preliminary studies for the painting in 1903. It wasn’t until 1907 that he painted it in his characteristic, decorative style, which he carried through to the extreme here (see original picture).

Both the concept of this painting, its coulours and ornaments are full of contrast and reveal to us our origin and future. The central figure is a woman, a beautifully composed worldly Madonna, captured within the inevitable circle of life, but without actually being involved (see original picture).

In this tender portrait of a sleeping mother and daughter, Klimt conveys eternal contentment. Both the concept of this painting, its colors and ornaments are full of contrast and reveal to us our origin and future. The central figure is a woman, a beautifully composed worldly Madonna, captured within the inevitable circle of life, but without actually being involved. Clusters of flowers in the mother's golden hair transition to a glowing background of circular motifs that enwraps the two figures (see original picture).
