This high spirited Christmas classic directed by the legendary Frank Capra ranks among fans and film critics alike as one of the most universally loved films ever made.
This release is worth getting as it has both the colorized and B&W versions. I for one wouldn't have bought this if it didn't also inclue the B&W version as like many prefer it as Capra shot it. I know the argument that Capra would have used color if it had been cheaper but he didn't - he used B&W and through that medium created a work of timeless art. Still as a curiousity the colorized version is also worth seeing.
Original & colour versions on 2 dvds with card slipcase, jewel case, pic slv., 7" x 5" inches artcards and folded film poster which is a reproduction of the original 1946 poster art. Bonus feature on the Dvds is the theatrical trailer. Gorgeous.
I'm a one man band and did these pages out of love for the film. Every sale really does matter to me - I'm not a huge organisation with no interest in the history of the film. I can't really compete with the big boys in terms of price though with this one it's worth buying from me as you can easily mistake those that come without the postcards and poster as they have the same cover, more or less. I know the ones that have the cards and poster as I always double check when I purchase one. So I may be one or 2 pounds more but each order is gratefully received.

This is a strange Dvd release. You will not sell one from after December 25th until well into October the following year. it just doesn't have a market beyond those dates - it's definately not a summer movie. If I over buy as I hope I haven't (just got a load in October 2016) then I'm sitting on dead stock so pretty please and buy my Dvd.

The changes in the world, in civilization and in humankind caused by the Second World War need no comment in these pages. Suffice to say that James Stewart was among those whose experiences during five years of miltary sevice had produced a more mature, sharper and more astute human...To begin with, he wanted to make his own way in the film business and not be subject to the dictates of a studio. He could have gone back to MGM, the arms of Louis B. Mayer were wide open. Instead he decided to join another man who had just returned from service, Frank Capra. Capra, also wanting to be independant, had formed Liberty Films, along with George Stevens, Williams Wyler and producer Samuel Briskin. Their first project would be It's a Wonderful Life...
The movie might well be coupled with Dickens's A Christmas Carol as an exercise in persuading us that all is eventually well...
Capra's glowingly optimistic movie emerged at Christmas 1946, and failed to become the smash hit Capra had hoped for...But time and distance have lent enchantment. It'a a Wonderful Life is generally regarded among filmmakers as a masterpiece and whenever it is shown today - it is a Christmas perennial - audiences respond to it as a beautiful evocation of former American values - with the hope that they have not entirely vanished. In the case of James Stewart and Frank Capra, both regard it as their favourite among their own movies.
James Stewart has ample reason to be grateful to Frank Capra. He told the authors of The Films of Frank Capra (Citadel Press, 1977), Victor Scherle and William Turner Levy, "In my opinion, Capra is one of the giants of the picture business and always will be. It is amazing the contribution that he made to the industry when it was young and just getting on its feet...Frank has had a great deal to do with the progress of my career over the eyars and I will always be grateful to him."...more from the book:

Dvd sets are all in Used - Vey Good condition. Card slipcases have slight wear in places. Dvds have all been checked and play perfectly. Poster is folded as it comes - postcards have slight wear where they have been placed against the Dvd tray holders. Nothing too bad.

Oct. 16: Direct link to ebay.co.uk's page (EAN: 5050582738698). The EAN is shared with other It's a Wonderful Life releases which don't have these so check the description of each individual seller if the poster and cards are important. I love these extras so I might have gone overboard above on their importance but, to me, they make the release that extra bit special.
The 2014 release here is equally as good with the artcards.
