Below is the only place in the universe where scans of all these 30 Dali postcards can be found. Rare lithographs including Dali's Springtime and Don Quixote and Sancho Panza! Each postcard book contains thirty cards and an introduction about details of the original artwork is on the reverse of each card. Hugely informative.
TEXT (FIRST PAGE)
"The world may despise me and misunderstand me, but I will be a genius, a great
genius, of that I'm sure." No one could accuse the Catalonian artist Salvador Dali
(1904-1989) of lacking self-esteem. All his life he was a master of
self-advertisement and astounded and shocked the public again and again,
becoming a notorious bugbear of the middle classes in the world of art. When he
wrote
the sentence aboe he was a sixteen-year-olf schoolboy, and had already had his work shown in
public exhibitions, and sold his first paintings. During this early years, he
was influenced by French Impressionism and other Parisian avant-garde trends of the
previous 20 years. It was only when he went to the Madrid Academy of Art in
1921 that he began to feel this way between magic realism
and Futurism, and had
his first encounter with cubism. His compatriot Pablo Picasso had a
decisive influence on during this period, as did Miro
and the poets Robert
Desnos and Paul Eluard, through whom he came into contact with
the
Surrealists.
At the end of the 1920s he found his way to Surrealism, as the movement particularly suited to his own way of thinking and temperament. But here, too, headed his own special touch: "Seeing is inventing, and this is what distinguishes me from the Surrealists." The writings of Sigmund Freud pointed him towards a symbolic world of the unconscious as a submerged reality. This gave him the starting-point for his perchant for the emotions and for the inexplicable fantasies. From then on he was concerned in his paintings with revealing the unconscious. He described dream images or, using all sorts of lunacies, entered a state of delirium in which mysterious worlds arose. His astonishing hallucinatory energy and grotesque capacity for association released an immense flood of pictures and produced dreamworlds set in infinite expanses of landscape. Beings with wild, overheated erotica fantasies appear in them, solid objects become soft and even melt. Dali called it "the paranoid processor of thought".
CONDITION
Used - Very Good. Crease bottom right of cover and back cover has shelf wear in places. Couple of the detachable cards loose but contains all 30 cards which are in 'excellent' condition (see all the cards scanned below). Oct. 2014: only 1 in stock.
